"This is not something the town did," said Councilman Jeff Sanders. "The property has been owned by the same person for about 40 years and this was between him and the bank. This was entirely the bank's decision and the owner's decision to respond in this way."
Councilman Russ Johnson said the hotel located on Pitman Avenue had been up for sale for about 18 months and had been listed on Craigslist. He said the council saw a few presentations from interested buyers but none of them followed through. On Saturday, the place was padlocked and the tenants told to leave.

The future of the lot will be according to a report from the The Gloucester County TimesCouncil President Russ Johnson said following demolition, the lot will be vacant until someone decides to buy it from Monroe Savings Bank, the property's current owners. Any potential developers must then come before the planning board because the property has been declared a redevelopment zone by the borough.I will miss looking at that building when I ride the 408 bus. They do not build places like that any longer.
