Levoy to Open by Christmas

The Levoy theatre near my house is to open by December 25 2010!!!!
Kerry Ogren, son of Arthur J. Ogren Construction in Vineland, which was awarded the roughly $6.5 million renovation contract, spoke at Kwannis. He states that they will use local venders.
This is the same company that built the Jaycee Plaza (I think) and has been involved in other projects. They are a family business and this will be a crowning achievement if they can finish on time and on budget. I wish them luck. I think this is a partnership which will benefit both parties. I think it already has!!

The crowning achievement should be tens of thousands of visitors every year for decades to come to assure the Levoy does not become an underused and tax-payer supported money pit. I would toast to that. Anyone can renovate an old building and hold a grand opening. Best of luck to the Levoy. I'm sure to attend an event or three a year if the cost isn't too much. The question is, what will it take business from? CCC, the Players, the Regal? The A.C. Surf and Dante Hall in AC are examples of things that weren't created by entrepeneurs but supported by local politics and tax money, and they are a failure. I hope this hasn't turned into a rant.

You can become a fan of The Levoy on facebook.

I hope the new levoy will enjoy many years of success and prosperity. The last event that I remember attending was when the old vauldeville entertainer Moe (just this second I can't remember his last name)from the 3 Stooges fame headlined. If I remember correctly he gave a short performance on stage then we watched a full length 3 Stooges movie. I'm guessing it was 1973 or so. I was very excited. The balcony was cool there too.

I look forward to making more happy memories there starting later this year. BTW, love the pics of Millville in the snow on your blog.

The Levoy will be the missing piece of the downtown revitalization. It makes no sense tto me why folks would be against making their town look nicer and have more $$ coming in.

People are against public money for projects they see as not needed and of course thay have that right. Often its a sports stadium. In this case, it is a theater, and there is one at CCC that is often only half full, and sometimes empty Fri and Sat. How will the Levoy fill up its calendar when other nearby theaters can't? Will 6 or 8 shows a month pay their bills? Comm Derella already supports continuous city funding of the theater for infinity so I guess nobody has to worry about the funding, just which tax it will come from. 1 Million dollar forgivable loan...must be nice. I hope they're frugal at the Levoy.

For some reason college theaters are not appealing to the general public. They seem to attract mainly the college crowd. Downtown theaters such as the Levoy and Landis should have a broader appeal, if the performances are attractive. I believe the Levoy will be more inviting than the Landis because downtown Millville has it all over Downtown Vineland.

There seems to be a bit of misinformation here. The Cumberland County College Theater is in fact very successful with it's self produced shows. with many of its productions receiving critical acclaim
