Route 55/49 Road Project

Well there was a protest about the 55/49 Project. I went to see what it was about and now Lou Magazzu has replied on the BEN column of today April 16 2009. He will be at the next City Commission meeting Tues April 21st. Here is just part of what the Freeholder Director said

"Further, it may be that the improvements at Route 55 and 49 may give the state incentive to move quicker on the other projects which require attention."I intend to be at the next city commission meeting on Tuesday, at 7 p.m., to ask the Millville City commissioners their thoughts on the Route 49 and 55 project."I have also asked DOT Commissioner Dilts to set up a meeting with DOT representatives and neighbors to determine if their concerns can be alleviated.

"When I am given a date and time, I will ask the city commission to make city hall available for the meeting.

"I have also asked the DOT to determine if there are other shovel-ready projects that could move forward in place of this one, if there is a desire to move away from this project."

This sounds ok to me but will it really happen? What about public transit like buses and trains???
Since this is not federal stimulus money being shovel-ready is NOT a requirement. How does a state that is BROKE just "find" $27 million?

Public transit? So people can travel to the big city, Millville, for work? The slums created and maintained by by Millville First and the government handout they get from Section 8 certainly makes it an appealing place to set up shop. Hey wait, there's that fried chicken joint, and that nail place. Oh yeah, the psychic might need someone to sweep up the place. Hey we don't need to stinkin' stimulus package here. Stay the course.

Public Transportation is IMPORTANT. Mark needs transportation to and from work. And it would also benefit those that don't own a truck or motorcycle.

Or those that own a Harley.

"Geepers, dad, Why does Millville First have others pay for their houses AND have others pick up the trash on those properties?"
"Eat your fried chicken, son. It's good for you." Somethings will be clear to you when you grow up."

Obviously people don't understand what section 8 REALLY is! It is federal money given to the person NOT the landlord. That person could take that cash & move to California if they wanted to. The city has nothing to do with it.

Son, it is time to explain some things to you, before you find out on your own. Millville has many problems and several of them arise from low income housing. Yes son I have been a party to encouraging that within our city. I belong to AHOME and we solicit low income families to come here, without any means of sustaining themselves. But don't let everyone know this. I think I have "painted" a different picture and am able to blame the system.

Obviously you know nothing about AHOME. Welcoming low income families was, as I understand it, the policy of city officials 15 or 20 years ago when Section 8 vouchers became a reliable source of income for landlords. I believe that is how Emil Van Hook got tied in with Section 8.
AHOME has nothing to do with rentals. It is an agency that makes home ownership possible. Buyers with limited income can get a new or rehabbed home in downtown Millville at a good price, but they are carefully vetted. They must be able to pay for the mortgage and must take a course in home ownership and managing personal finances. To date, only one of the forty or so homes sold by AHOME has undergone foreclosure, and that was owned by Bob Teseroni's daughter.
