MDC Meeting

Graphicus made a presentation of their new marketing plan to merchants at the RRCA. One plan was to ask all merchants to be open Friday (till 9pm) Saturday and Sunday. An email was sent earlier this week and so far 9 have responded.
I think with the Motorsports Park, there needs to be a spirit of can-do and I think Graphicus has good ideas on the marketing of the Arts District

Raise the residential property taxes and then sweep out the trash.
"But daddy, with no more crime and the businesses thriving, who will put the city back into decline, with Millville First and the slumlords gone?"
"We'll find someone to preach to us son. It took a lot of imagination and forward thinking to bring this fried chicken place to the arts district, so eat up!"

You don't need to raise property taxes to clean out the trash. You just need to enforce the rules we already have in place to the letter.

Pursue maximum fines for code violations on all properties for everything that's allowed by law.

Inspect homes more often and enforce maximum occupancy standards that are in place.

If a rental property's sticker hasn't been reapproved; maximum fine. Just make the business of being a bad landlord unprofitable.

If you're a landlord that's dedicated to keeping up your property and doing what's right, you won't have a problem.

I also remember the city talking a lot about making tenants or landlords pay when the police are sent to their house too often.

Whatever happened to that?

The market can be remarkably efficient and swift at removing slums and slumlords. In one fell swoop of gentrification, Millville could be virtually rid of violent crime, slumlords, Millville First and lack of business- those things that have kept the city in decline for four decades. Millville First wuld be better in Camden, Bridgeton, or Atlantic City, where they could preach to the section 8 tenants the evils of taxation and bringing industry and young professionals to urban areas.

Millville will never resolve the problems they have until they deal with the Dead Beat parents. Lack of parental guidance is the root of the problem.
