There Are Important Issues in Millville..not just Noise.

U.S. Census Bureau map of Millville, New JerseyImage via Wikipedia
I live in Center City Millville and I agree with this gentleman:
To the Editor:

Since day one when the New Jersey Motorsports Park opened, a couple of groups have done nothing but gripe about everything that happens at the park.

Share I live very close to the NJMP and I have yet to hear noise so loud that I have to leave my home because of it.

TrackRacket and Millville First would find something else to gripe about if they closed the park down tomorrow. “If it’s not in my neighborhood, then who cares” is the attitude TrackRacket and Millville First seem to have.

Let me inform both groups: There is much more serious issues in Millville than the sound of cars and motorcycles because it’s in their neighborhood. Not one time has anyone from TrackRacket complained about the crime, safety problems, gangs, etc., in the city.

Why? It’s not in their neighborhood.

They, along with Paul Porreca and his little band of complainers, never show any concern for the safety of all the citizens of Millville. Could the reason Porreca and Tesoroni refuse to bring up how bad the crime is in Millville is because Dave Vanaman, a charter member of Millville First, is the commissioner in charge of public safety?

You can bet the house if any of the remaining four commissioners had public safety, Millville First would be as sarcastic, or even more so, to them. But you never have heard them question Dave Vanaman on any issue.

Why not ask about the lawsuits against the police department that have cost the city over a million dollars over the past few years.

Nothing is being said about the charges by Officer Gentile or Officer Colle. Not one officer on the Millville police force was mentioned as being responsible. If a civilian sexually harassed anyone, they would be arrested, have to post bail and go to court. But not those who caused Officers Gentile and Colle tremendous pain and made it hard for them to perform their duties as police officers. Why were those employees not fired or at least disciplined?

Mr. Porreca, where have you been when it comes to this costing the city money, as well as lawyers to represent the city in your lawsuit?

So there are more important issues in the city than the noise from the racetrack. What’s more alarming is the sound of gunshots, riots and gang violence.

I still believe the city should rent the fairgrounds and make it a tent city jail for gangs only. Put them all together and then let them go at each other. It would be easier for the police department to handle.

So, TrackRacket and Millville First, what will your gripe be next? The motorsports park is not going away, so maybe you should go away.

Good Morning: Weds August 4th

Spark plugsImage via Wikipedia
Honda at Center City Toyota in April
Hello world. Well, I lost my backpack with my phone charger and the USB to my camera, so no up-to-date photos for several days while I try to get to the local Best Buy in Millville. I am going to take the car this morning and stay in Philly tonite. I have to bring the Honda Element to Center City Toyota to change the spark plugs. The car is getting poor gas mileage and its running sluggish. It has about 74,000 miles on it so its starting to age a bit. I hope its not too expensive. Finally got a pet sitting job at the Fairfax so that is good.
Work was unreal. I got in early yesterday at 8am and between 8 and 9 am I answered 15 calls! Most asked about when they were going to get
52nd Street in West Philly
their August carfare. Half our unit is out, so I saw working like craazzzy man. Its Pa Department of Public Welfare and its chronic under staffing. The front desk can not handle the amount of folks to service. I remember when upper management spoke on and on about "customer service" I guess that is SO last year. I mean, if an agency does not have enough staff to handle the volume, that is NOT serving the customer!! Harrisburg should send someone down to Elmwood and see what I am taking about. I can not photograph the sight cause DPW does not want cameras in the Welfare Office. I could get in huge trouble. Hell, some get away with doing little but never mind THAT!!
The opponents of the race track came out to the Millville City Commission meeting. I of course came home way too late to photograph nor videotape the proceedings. While I have been very critical of Ms. Post and others who want to shut down the NJMSP, the folks running the park have NOT made life easy for our City Commission.
Doing the heavy lifting in Millville
I never hear much of ANY concern about the noise issue from the NJMSP powers that be. I suppose some (not all) think that we in Millville are a bunch of county bumpkins who can be blown off. Maybe they think they are smarter then the City Commission. They have the City Commission taking shots over and over again while they remain mute. Come on fellows, just acknowledge that noise IS an issue. By now you should all realize that this issue is NOT going away.
I have a Zoning Board meeting Thursday night. We are having a porch sale this coming Saturday from 8 to 6pm. Come on out we have all kinds of stuff for sale.
Well, off to Philly to shop and do welfare.

Moving Along in July

Its Tuesday and well, I took the bus for the first time this entire month. The NJ Transit Route 408 was OK. I then, took SEPTA from 8th Street to 49th and Baltimore Ave to check on a cat that I have been pet sitting for over the past 2 weeks. Her first check just showed up. It took 2 weeks to be delivered from Arkansas. I saw a friend while taking the route 34 Trolley. He just bought a home in Ventnor. I asked him for a mutual friend to call me sometime. He seems way to buzy running a company called New Revenna which make really cool mosac tiles that I could NEVER afford. Well, the New Jerse Motorsports Park is the subject of much debate about the noise. A fellow blogger Robert Owens calls out the park in a blog entry called Quid Pro Quo But for Whom?   He states that if the track can do something about the noise, the city of Millville will allow the ATV Track to be built. Don't take my word for it. Lets see what Mr. Owens has to say
There you go. Do something about the noise to get the taxpayers voters off our backs and we’ll grant you the right to build the ATV track on the land you already own.

Of course, Millville loses in this deal. We won’t get the money from the sale of land that was already agreed to. That land was further away from the town’s residences.

And what faith can taxpayers/voters have that this committee will negotiate anything good? The first round got us a track that has negatively affected our homes. Local politicians are no match for the corporate track owners and their lawyers.
He lives near the park and states he does not want it shut down. Again I say that there does not seem to be communication that is constructive. This committee does not have have plain old Millville residents. I guess that the city figured that the issue is too polarizing. I would have like to be asked to be on that committee. I support the track and I would like to find a middle ground. WoW!! Did I just say that? Must be the coffee kicking in again. It would be tough being on that committee since I would piss off someone. I think that is why they have committees to take the heat off and to find SOME KIND of resolution to the noise issue. TrackRacket has sued the city and that is not very constructive and the racetrack folks have not come out and say in public that they understand what some reasonible folks are saying. I am not including folks who want to just make political hay for themselves like Millville First.

Motersports Park and Noise

Tonight January 15th an organization called Track Racket, held a meeting at the Municipal Building in Cedarville NJ . Michelle Post who lives in Lawrence Township says her neighborhood was quiet when she first moved there five years ago. That changed when the New Jersey Motorsports Park opened last year, and now she is protesting the Park's noise by organizing and creating TrackRacket.
I missed the first 45 min but I quickly noticed the room was full with about 40-50 folks attending. There were 10 from a well-known opponents of the current Millville City Commission, a local lawyer I know, several artists and neighbors of the park.
Ms. Post keep it as grounded as well as she could. It's worth noting that Post says her group has no political agenda that's good but its not easy being apolitical in Cumberland County. She just wants some relative peace and quiet but I could tell that a few in the audience had axes to grind about the City Commission
Folks were URGED to call Millville City officials including the Mayor and the Zoning Officer. I believe they need to call the Freeholder Director cause he does RUN Cumberland County. Their leaflet quotes Freeholder Lou Magazzu implying that he is ignorant of noise pollution and they had this quote "This is not a smokestack. This is not something that will bring deleterious effects." the flyer adds: " Obviously, Lou does not live a mile from the racetrack.
Some asked if the motorsports owners or representatives from Millville city government would be invited and others stated that neither the city nor racetrack officials care enough to show up to future meetings. I know folks who live near each other and each has a different perception of the noise issue. In general, all parties need to listen to each other and ignore the the negative people not looking for solutions like most of the folks in the Daily Journal Forums

Sitar Bob Writes of the Noise of the Racetrack

Hey All,
I concur... the Grand Am event was the loudest one yet. None of it has really bothered me all that much but that was loud!!! I am, at times, (eh...hem) a late sleeper but it has not really interfered with my beauty rest so far. Lord knows I need it!!!
Cedar St. traffic is much closer to my house and louder. The racetrack noise is more constant but usually like hearing alot of traffic out on Buckshutem Road to me. I think I have more woods between me and the track than some folks even west of Buckshutem. It seems louder at my friend's house on Porreca Drive to me than at my house near the intersection. If I had a smelly horse farm there, I might have to sell it cheap and move to another town far, FAR away!!! (Hint, hint.)
I try to think of it as the sound of people having fun!!! Like music, if it is a sound you enjoy, you can tolerate it much louder. (Remember all of those Iron Butterfly concerts??? Me neither!!!) If it is sound you don't enjoy, it is extremely annoying. (Wives and preachers take note!!!)
I was against the racetrack initially because of enviromental, noise and dust pollution reasons. I have come to embrace the racetrack as it is now a reality. I usually hate to hear car races on TV but I watched the race they broadcast from the park and thoroughly enjoyed it.
I do feel for the people who are getting more noise than I am. It is
probably JUST tolerable for me. However, the airshow is much worse... like living in a war zone from the time they start flying in and practicing on Wed. to the Monday after when they start flying home. I have had my home strafed by warplanes directly overhead for hours on end and for days at a time. Now THAT'S stressful!!! Read my INFERNO story about it. Made me most unpopular with those who didn't get the humor!!! Carl... cc: that to everyone stat!!!)
Hopefully more buffers will be implemented and perhaps officials can take a second look at whether we should have open wheeled racing. Other than that, hope that racetrack folks will want to buy homes in the area near the track!!! Perhaps there is a way to market the homes of those who want to sell to those racing enthusiasts who would like a home near the track. (Realtors.... are you listening to the genius dribbling out of me like tapioca from Grandpa's mouth???)
It could be worse. It could be an open air Hip-hop concert venue! Or worse yet, country and western!!! Yee-Hah!!!
Think of the sound of the racetrack like prison sex - Once you except it's inevitability, you might just as well loosen up and try to enjoy it!!!

Motersports Park and Noise

This past weekend we in Millville saw....no..heard the other side of the
Motorsports Park. Its ironic that this complaint comes out one year after
the groundbreaking last September 19th. Here is a quote from the Sept 17 AC Press:

"At Tuesday's commission meeting, just two residents, a husband and wife, spoke about the noise, but the commissioners said they've received numerous complaints, including one coming from Port Norris.

The couple lives on Val Lane, a road near the park, and they said the noise has reached a point where they think it mig

and the park is getting good press . This is not a bad thing at all but there is room for improvement.
