Motersports Park and Noise

Tonight January 15th an organization called Track Racket, held a meeting at the Municipal Building in Cedarville NJ . Michelle Post who lives in Lawrence Township says her neighborhood was quiet when she first moved there five years ago. That changed when the New Jersey Motorsports Park opened last year, and now she is protesting the Park's noise by organizing and creating TrackRacket.
I missed the first 45 min but I quickly noticed the room was full with about 40-50 folks attending. There were 10 from a well-known opponents of the current Millville City Commission, a local lawyer I know, several artists and neighbors of the park.
Ms. Post keep it as grounded as well as she could. It's worth noting that Post says her group has no political agenda that's good but its not easy being apolitical in Cumberland County. She just wants some relative peace and quiet but I could tell that a few in the audience had axes to grind about the City Commission
Folks were URGED to call Millville City officials including the Mayor and the Zoning Officer. I believe they need to call the Freeholder Director cause he does RUN Cumberland County. Their leaflet quotes Freeholder Lou Magazzu implying that he is ignorant of noise pollution and they had this quote "This is not a smokestack. This is not something that will bring deleterious effects." the flyer adds: " Obviously, Lou does not live a mile from the racetrack.
Some asked if the motorsports owners or representatives from Millville city government would be invited and others stated that neither the city nor racetrack officials care enough to show up to future meetings. I know folks who live near each other and each has a different perception of the noise issue. In general, all parties need to listen to each other and ignore the the negative people not looking for solutions like most of the folks in the Daily Journal Forums

All I hear is a lot of whining coming from senior citizens or recent transplants, all with a concept of what this area should be, not what is is, nor what it needs to be.

Those of us who have grown up in Millville, grown up in its current state of economic decline and poverty know very well that something needs to be done to help turn it around.

We don't have fond memories of kids playing in the safe streets of center city, or of being a tough guy in the 3rd ward where the biggest news used to be Timmy from down the street getting a bloody nose from a school yard fight.

We don't have fond memories of Wheatons, a prosperous downtown, or anything, ANYTHING, positive, ever. And that's really no exaggeration.

A funny thing happened when I returned to this county from college. I noticed that all my other friends had not. Smartly, it seems in retrospect, they had contributed to the brain drain, taking their education and intelligence and fleeing like the Jews from Egypt, looking for their promised land.

Now, every day I'm consumed by the thoughts, words and actions of myopic thinkers with no stake in Millville. They've come for the piece and quiet, sitting on their little lots of land away from the drugs and violence and gangs and strife. They have no concept of what it's like to live in Millville.

Those senior citizens who complain can't fathom what Millville has become. Of course they've contributed to its decline, but they've done nothing to resurrect it. They'd like to do nothing, too, because they will never take responsibility for their failings and for the pox they've put on this city.

If the good old boys of Millville aren't dealt with, we'll have nothing left to do. I'll leave, the other educated will follow and Cumberland County will remain the poorest, least educated, most violent, with the highest rates of teen pregnancy and prison population, county in the state.

noise pollution is one of the great unsolvable problems under the capitalist rubric. Where do my rights as a property owner end and why can someone infringe on my quality of life without asking me? Shouldn't I be able to ban environmental disturbances from reaching my property. Especially ones that can damage my hearing? The notion that the wellbeing of everyone is worked out just fine by contracts between separate parties is the biggest mistake of libertarian capitalism as practices in amerikkka. Even a transaction between two people in a smallest of villages village has effects on the whole community. Liberal democracy is degraded by pure contractual proprietarianism which at the extreme end of the spectrum becomes a form of oligarchic feudalism.

dude, the daily journal forums are laughable -- bunch of redneck clueless trash for the most part. I can stomach a lot, from having posted thousands of posts on various forums, but I can't stomach the daily journal forums and the ignoramuses and their ill-informed opinions.

Amen to the comments about transplants and natives that have done nothing to stop the decline of this city, and many that have actually contributed to the decline.

The comment about this noise damaging your hearing - the only way that will happen is if you go to the track and watch events from the fence for prolonged periods - the distant hum that these crybabies are whining about will not cause harm.

IMHO - it sure beats the boombox Nissans that roll down my street in the early hours of the morning, shaking the foundations of my house, rattling the windows and waking me from a deep sleep.

The difference, these punks with the loud music are doing nothing but truly destroying the quality of life, the NJMP is contributing to increasing the quality of life by creating jobs and bringing tourism into our region.

The ringleader of this group is a perfect example of the "whining recent transplants" anonymous and Millville Crime Watch mentioned. This person has a cushy job in central Jersey. She has no financial stake in the city and it's success, and uses it as her country home and weekend get-away. She was able to take advantage of the cheap real estate opportunities brought on our financial hardships. She reminds me of many of the city's landlords, who have also been able to take advantage of the situation, by buying up foreclosed homes and lining their pockets at the expense of the neighborhoods they are destroying.

See what happens Ms. Post when you take a different position from Millville Crime Watch (AKA - Carl Johnson)? Here is a man who neglected his responsibilities as a father and then looks for people to respect him. NOT!

I was born and raised in Millville, more years ago than I would like to admit. I remember how it was and was one of those that left for greener pastures.
But now that I have invested money to purchse and improve properties...yes to make a buck....I have followed the controversies about the progress of the town.
Does anyone realize that big projects will soon transform this poverty stricken town? Hotels, Motorsports, Riverfront condos to be constructed, new jobs, new roads, and new minds trying to play monopoly with existing properties to purchase, renovate, and rent out.
I dont think the City Fathers are such dummies as portrayed by some. Its capitalism folks. They apparantly passed social studies at ol MHS.

I think it worth it to have sensible debate on this issue WITHOUT personal attacks. We all need to listen and try to work together in this rough economic climate.

You are correct Mark in that it is not necessary to have personal attacks. But your close friend Carl makes that an impossibility. As a resident of Cedarville, a hobby artist and a concerned resident over the intrusions created by the Motorsports Park, I don't need to hear or read remarks by your close friend like "another stupid Millville (Cedarville) yokel with their backwood accent. With his background, he would do well to keep his remarks to himself. Just look at the manner in which he disrespects Michelle, who is trying to find a solution that is agreeable to all parties. Instead, he takes personal attacks on her and everyone involved. It should become apparent that Carl is in it for Carl. When he tells lies and half-truths, he dismisses it as "puffing and bragging". Call it what it is - a lie or a half-truth. What took place with the recent Freeholder elections was nothing short of a sin. The Republicans allowed Carl to ruin their chances of getting into office because of his lack of responsibility as a father and his personal attacks on everyone and I mean everyone that has an oposing view. I wish Michelle and everyone involved success in their quest to resolve the noise issue. To all I suggest that you recognize Carl for what he is and totally disregard him. He will self-destruct.

Lets try to leave Mr. Johnson out of it. This issue goes WAY beyone your personal problems with him. I doubt most reading this care or want to read about this. You are beating a worn out horse. I may AGAIN have to disable ANONYMOUS comments if this keeps up. Its tiresome

Perhaps you should diable Mr. Crime Watch instead?!
He deleberately is the cause of all the remarks made about him.
It's actually kind of sad that a person like him thrives on attention so badly that he stoops to such low levels.

Anything that someone doesn't like or is distruptive to their lives is "harmful to them" -- it's a theoretical point to illustrate the problems with the libertarian capitalist notion that individual proprietarian contracts between consenting parties are always "good for everyone" or that "trade is always good" to paraphrase. Noise pollution is one such example of this, and it is discussed by those who take economic social and political theory and their philosophic foundations seriously. One may be annoyed by the "distant hum" of automobiles to the point that one can't get sleep and is exhausted at work the next day. Who is Mr Crime watch to say that no one was harmed??

Anonymous is nothing but an elitist who has the mythological notion that it is the individual "Educated" entrepreneur who is the sole creation of goodness and value in a community through the "trickle down effect", and that everything topples when the elite "educated" autocratic planners and developers aren't able to do whatever they want of their own accord. Only educated and the rich can create meaningful things according to this type of elitist mentality.

And how did the senior citizens that Mr Anonymous speaks of contribute to this cities decline from it's former "glory"? By not becoming illustrious business men and real estate investors?

Elitist drivel.
