Columbus Day Weekend

It’s been a nice little weekend thus far.  Friday, the Millville Fire Department attempted to rescue a kitten that was in the sewer.The cat managed to  run anywhere it would from getting captured. I give full credit to the MFD for working so hard to try to rescue the cat. You can see video of this on  my YouTube site.I only know that the SPCA was called and other then that I do not know the fate of this cat.
Saturday October 9, I took care of some boxes by going over to a red dumpster where boxes are supposed to be thrown out so they can be recycled.

That was kind of fun and got alot of boxes that were to be used when the Fithian House was still open last year. Next we went to Bridgeton to donate some clothes and other items at a place called The Bridge. It seemed like they could use more donations.

The folks were very nice as well. This trip to Bridgeton was a prelude to going over to the Crowe’s house where I met up with Pat. We worked on a cat area in the basement that will keep the cats in a contained area but leave the rest of the basement  intact from all the wonderful cat  stuff that at one point really made a mess of the basement. The floors have been repainted with care in hopes that St. Nick will soon be there.  Pat Jon and I

the screening to the top beams then cut at the bottom.  Stapling of the screens was on 2X4’s. that are to hold the 3 cats in the enclosed area. We will see if this idea works. Yesterday Sunday,  was a slow mellow day. It was another nice fall day in October. We chilled out in the bright sunshine for awhile. Took the dogs for a walk at the riverwalk. I took a look to see how the riverfront condo's were doing and for the first time,
I saw a building that was partially built. That is PROGRESS for sure. Lets see when more of them get built and expand the walkway. We went shopping and were to go to the Shop Rite like everyone elese but decided to hit the ACME instead. Boy, its much less crowded! We did notice that there was less selection in some items such as pet food,

but the aisles were larger and in general the ACME was more roomy.  If the contrast in how crowded each of the stores are, then the ACME is in trouble. Also ACME has the reputation for having the higher prices.  We will see I suppose.
The Eagles and Phillies are playing tonite and so far both are leading. Phillies 2-0 and Eagles 17-10.  Here is the Eagles report :

A nice first half for the Eagles, who for won't have to answer questions about a slow start this week (except on kick coverage). The defense produced two turnovers, the offense scored on three of its four drives, tallying 17 points. Injuries to Jason Peters and Brodrick Bunkley are two of the very few things for the Eagles to be worried about, and even more worrisome, Trent Cole went to the locker room early. If he can't return, that will be big trouble as the Eagles try to protect a seven point lead.

As for the Phillies. Cole Hamels is looking sharp for 6 innings.  Chase Utly his a solo home run to make the lead 2-0. The offence could stand to get more runs.
Finished watching Kennth Branah as Wallander on PBS. It’s a pretty good show but it does start off very slow and gets all involved in his personal  family issues.  Now it’s the 2^nd half of the Eagles game and there is 8 min left in the 3^rd quarter.  Eagles just blew a  4^th and 1.  Kolb is not mobile and that seems to cause a problem.

Update!!Well, the Eagles barely beat the 49ers 27-24 and the Phillies swept the Reds 2-0. Now its time to move on bigger and better things. Tomorrow, is my day off for Columbus day and Jim's Lunch will be opening again. Its not such a bad place but I have not been there much.

October 6 and 7 2010

College design major on the bus

The first full week of October was ok I suppose. It rained half the time and I was again busy at work but I did make progress. This photo is of a computer a young woman had on the 408 bus. Oct 6th we almost got into 2 accidents with aggressive drivers.

A bad driver distracted

I missed that action with my camera since I was trying to take a quickie nap before going to the Bridge Plaza in Camden. The same night Ray Halliday pitched a no-hitter for the Phillies against the Reds. I did see Shawn Victorino get a 2-run single to make it 4-0 Phillies. That is how the game ended.  Before I went to work, I left from Pat's house and before work I went to a sandwich place called Yock's. They are on the corner of 57th and Chestnut Streets in Philly. I ordered my favorate which is an egg and cheese and hot peppers on a cinnamon raisin bagel ..YUM!!  After that,  at work, I got into a tiff with one of the managers at work. That caused me to have

to miss the Zoning Board meeing last nite. Guess what, they failed to reach quarom! Man that sucks. Today I have the day off to get stuff done around the house. Man, it is such a nice day out. Our nighbor Kirk is fixing the 2nd floor apt since appairently it was trashed by the former tenents. They were nice people in my opinion but that is kinda sad really. Well, enough for now. Got to go

Bogarts Books where Poetry on High was happening. There was a nice crowd there and it was enjoyable. I then checked out the Phillies and Eagles games at Bojo's while having a beer. The Eagles were leading but the Phillies were losing to the Washington Nationals.

Turns out the Eagles barely beat the Detroit Lions 35-32 and the Phillies won 7-6 with 4 runs in the 9th inning. They face the Atlanta Braves for a big series. to decide who will be National League East champs. The discount store is closing this week and moving to philly. It had an ugly sign but it was sure convenient. There was no troublemakers hanging out and it brought folks who would otherwise not step foot in the Arts District. Speaking of which there is a again some grumbling about the MDC but there will be no changes at the top since there is enough support to keep the MDC leadership intact.
This Thursday is Artists Nite and also a public meeting held by Motorsports protest group TrackRacket. As reported in the News of Cumberland County representatives from the City Commission and the Motorsports Park will NOT attend due to the pending litigation:

TrackRacket's complaint against the city concerning enforcement of the city's noise ordinance against the New Jersey Motorsports Park was dismissed late last month. There remains the possibility that the special interest group will move ahead with an appeal to that decision.
The same complaint against the track has yet to be dismissed.
"We have received no formal invitation, and I would think that their attorneys would advise them not to invite us because of the litigation," Fauerbach said. "You do not conduct litigation away from the courtroom."
Post e-mailed invitations to each of the five city commissioners.
"It's a shame the commissioners will not be there," TrackRacket founder Michele Post said. "They could come and listen. Nothing's stopping them from coming and hearing it."
The meeting is an open public forum, and all are welcome to attend, Post said

Well, I did note that all are welcome to "attend" but not speak like at a previous public meeting. where folks from the racetrack tried to speak. This is when I started to really question the motivation. Since then, the listing has ONLY been done by newspaper reporters, bloggers and the Millville City Commission.

Tuesday Night

Today we got our new computer and keyboards. We kept the same duel monitors. The only bummer is that most of my extra work files never made it. I did call DPW tech support and I am to request that my old hard drive go to OIM and then they are supposed to put it in my network drive ( :H ). A friend emailed some of them back. Digg this  I can not copy/past on the web based CIS. This will make me more inefficient. I am going to call  the the CIS Hotline and get a "Ticket #." I do not expect much. Oh well, life is change right??

Speaking of change, I was encouraged to check this NJ state job in Pleasantville  NJWell, when I went to Google Maps, the car and bus commute are almost as far. Umm...
In politics, a Tea Party favorate, Christine O'Donnnell beat Mike Castle in Delaware. Castle was well-known and a moderate Republican. Boy, there are not many moderate Republicans left. Its amazing that in LESS then 2 years, that some folks see far-right candidates as a solution to the country's problems. Yup, tax cuts for the rich are really gonna help me and the middle class.Ah the trickle-down economics. As the saying goes: "Don't piss on me and call it rain"..The phillies won and I got to see Cole Hamels strike out his 12th and 13th batter while waiting for take out. I had wings and Carolyne had a salad. I was treated to a cold one to boot.
Anyway, I am going to call it a night, since the battery on this computer is dying and I must get up early tomorrow.

Cold Turkey Observations:September 9th 2010

Getting ready to blog this morning.

Its Thursday morning and I am not at work. Took the rest of the week off from the Welfare Wakka for a change. Well, the president has FINALLY gotten off his political duff and is starting to respond to the Republican campaign of government shutdowns and repealing the health care bill. I am one of those who say again. "Its about time!". Here is just a small sample of this speech

These values are not Democratic or Republican. They are not conservative or liberal values. They are American values. As Democrats, we take pride in what our party has accomplished over the last century: Social Security and the minimum wage; the G.I. Bill and Medicare; civil rights and worker's rights and women's rights. But we also recognize that throughout our history, there has been a noble Republican vision as well, of what this country can be. It was the vision of Abraham Lincoln, who set up the first land grant colleges and launched the transcontinental railroad; the vision of Teddy Roosevelt, who used the power of government to break up monopolies; the vision of Dwight Eisenhower, who helped build the Interstate Highway System. And, yes, the vision of Ronald Reagan, who despite his aversion to government, was willing to help save Social Security for future generations -- working with Democrats.

Anyway, you know where I stand. This past week was a bit rough. Tuesday on the Route 408 bus 48 folks jammed on the bus.

Ohh..THAT Smell!!! :(

That was bad enough but there was a HORRIFIC smell that gave me a bad tension headache and I almost wanted to barf. I swear it was rotting skin. It was the worst smell since I worked for the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging in 1991 and was making home visits to bedridden folks with gaping bedsores. A sassy nasty woman then got on my case for being silly. Damn, some folks will die with no sense of humor. THAT is too bad. After that, I had to deal with work and it just comfirmed that I need time off for working very hard and not seeing much in the fruits of my labor but hey, I have a job... I stayed over at my big-headed friend.

Not feeling very good in the hood

We walked to take care of some pet-sitting errends. One person stated about the Phillies that Joe Blanton has pitching problems in the first inning of a game and the 7th inning. They won that night to claim FIRST PLACE for the first time since May 30th. I then went to sleep real early and man that was good. I felt the best I have in the past 10 days and it showed at work. I was less snippy and felt calmer.The past few days has felt like cold turkey man. It was 10 days of BPD it made want to eat some KFC.
Oh I ran into Mayor Shannon and he reminded me that on Saturday September 11th the City of Millville will rededicate the Vietnam Veterans Memorial AND have a candlelight ceremony for the September 11th 2001 terrorist attacks. They will begin at Patriot Park then move to across the street. I hope to make it myself.
Well, time to get dressed so I can be of some help with our yard sale which is THIS Sunday Sept 12th. Below is what I do NOT miss about West Philly.
