"round the water coolers of America, in the lines waiting for their lattes, and from bar stool to bar stool yesterday, people said to each other, "The thing that's so difficult is that the weather, it just keeps changing," and then they broke into uncontrollable laughter. Another national catchphrase was born, which is the dream of every television executive. Oh, that Uncle Bud. How does he stay in character?
"The thing that's so difficult is that the ice cream, it just keeps melting."
"The thing that's so difficult is that the clock, it just keeps ticking."
f the directors of this slapstick think Philadelphia in general and the Phillies in particular are upset about the extra half-inning that shouldn't have been played, imagine if Shane Victorino had been unable to fight through the wind and the rain and the deep outfield to catch Evan Longoria's drive over his head that ended Monday's installment. Carlos Pena would have scored easily to put Tampa Bay ahead and the comedy would have continued. Even Uncle Bud's explanation wouldn't have been as funny then.
"The thing that's so difficult is that the ball, it just keeps rolling."
Kind of makes you anxious for the next episode. What will the guys in charge of the story come up with this time? It could be anything, including another cliff-hanging delay until tomorrow, or Friday, or Arbor Day.
"We're not going to resume until we have decent weather conditions," Uncle Bud said.
Tell him to stop, please. He's killing us.
