A Special Retirement
Imagine retiring from your job with 56 years of service. Can’t do it? Well, Gene Stohn from the Schuylkill CAO did just that when he retired on March 28, 2008 with 55.697 years of dedicated service to the Commonwealth. Gene started his career in 1954 at the age of 26 when he was hired as an Income Maintenance Caseworker at the Schuylkill County Assistance Office, a position he held until 1967. He was then promoted to Income Maintenance Caseworker Supervisor in 1967. A US Navy veteran, Gene graduated from Penn State University in 1952 with a Bachelor of Arts in Music and a minor in Social Studies. A year later in 1953, he married his sweetheart Catherine. They have two children and one granddaughter. Although Gene says he has no immediate plans for the future, we are certain he will enjoy his well-deserved break from full time employment. We would like to extend our congratulations to Gene for an outstanding tenure with the Department and wish him well in his new endeavors.
