Slumlords Hall of Shame

A friend of mine shared this with me and it needs to be reported.
Center City Millville there is a ratio of around 65% rental to 35% owner-occupied. This percentage needs to be turned around in order to create a healthy neighborhood.

My friend made a OPRA request for a list of recent incidences where the city was forced into performing maintenance on properties in the city. There were 22 separate incidents where the city had to board and secure abandoned properties, and cut and clean properties where the owners refused to perform the minimal maintenance after being duly notified. Twelve of these properties are located in Center City.

The City of Millville has been doing a fine job or enforcing the Municipal Code. And so, with pleasure, I present a list of landlords that are too busy to bother with general acceptable standards of upkeep of their properties

Do you notice how many of the owners do not even live in the city? Sure, it is fine with them to have crappy properties when they do not LIVE HERE!

HUD! Are you telling me that HUD doesn’t have the finances to ensure that their properties are not a blight to our neighborhoods?

Why can’t JP Morgan - Chase can’t ensure one of their foreclosures is properly secured?

Gasper Oliver from Vineland has been a repeat customer, a long-time slumlord.

The biggest disappointment is Millville Housing Authority. Hopefully their very capable director, Paul Dice, will be able to fix this trend. He has been doing an excellent job putting out fires since taking control.

I agree witrh you the MHA is the biggest dissappontment but, really, why should we be surprised?
It's Millville!
They've been one dissappointment after another!
I love Millville but, I am certainly not proud to live here!
I honestly want the best for our town but they've been going about it the wrong way.
Time for them to start living in the reality instead of the fantasy world.

I know Millville is struggling now. Take a look at Bridgeton and or Vineland. I think Millville compares well. Folks have to try to make things better instead of complaining.
Thanks for your comments, see you at the Commission meetings.

My Dad bought 226 Mulberry St. back in the early 80's. It was a beautiful Victorian that he busted his ass to keep in pristine condition. Unfortunately, the town that was once like a smaller Cape May community started to go downhill fast. My father made the decision to sell our childhood home, the home that holds so many memories, in order to provide his children with a much safer neighborhood. It makes me literally sick to my stomach to see my old home in that condition. If you can't take care of it, demolish it and put those memories to rest. Don't let it sit there like a ghost of the town that was once a desirable place to live.

To the misinformed, you should have done your homework because it's hard to keep a property in good condition when your tenants turn out to be crackheads that destroy your property. So try owning something there before listing people as slumlords.
