Cape Fear and Southport NC

Today Weds, we went to Southport NC. We had a very relaxing lunch at the Fishy Fishy Cafe. We had lunch by the docks and the sun was in its glory.

Hello From Cape Fear:Wish you were Here!

Its Tuesday and we made it to Oak Island. It in the Cape Fear region. Located in Brunswick County, Oak Island is about 35 miles south of Wilmington NC. So far we have visited the local coffee shop called the Flying Pig, took a Ferry, visited Wilmington. Yesterday it rained in Wilmington hard! This was flash flooding I have never seen before. Here are some pictures of the beach and the intercoastal waterway. I did get this video of the wonderful ocean scene near our cottage.

Bonfire of the Travesties Millville NJ

Saturday night August 11 an event so creative and warm was held, called the Bonfire of the Travesties. Artists from the area and beyond brought their art that was unfinished, undone or just a mistake in the studio. Michele Post and
Carl Johnson took an idea hatched last year and made it a reality. Artists sacrificed bad art, aborted art and stuff that hung around. They were sacrificed to the Art Monkey

Some of it was actually auctioned off for up to $11! Special guests were the Lawrence TWP Fire Department!!! They were cool. One of the movies
has Carl talking about his "bad" art and featured the sounds of the Fire Department arriving. After the Fire Department left, the
bonfire continues with Liz describing one of Carl's less then fine pieces. Next Michele tells the story of Redman and he glides down..down till he burns up and Carl and Michelle thank all who came out and enjoyed the event.
There was a nice spread of food, beer and laughs all around. Here are some pictures and a movie of this event for the Post Modern age. Watch as the fire is lit. The1st movie below has Carl describing The Bonfire of the Travesties and the 2nd is him discussing the bonfire is a success . I hope you enjoy this part of my blog. It was fun to relive the fun. Madrigal in Millville New Jersey

During the Millville Car Show yesterday Aug 11, I got to visit this cool store on High Street. I saw this band play for a bit. It was quite an interesting sound. Listen to it now and enjoy.

County Taxes and You

There is plenty of debate about taxes The Cumberland County tax rate went down because of all the new construction in the County, so the County can say they reduced taxes. Millville’s rate skyrocketed because much of the new construction has abatements and does not pay its share. I have heard that County simply adjusted Millville’s rate so that the County taxes in Millville went way up County taxes on the new mall. I hope to find out the facts. I beleive that items that are paid with state grants like the proposed pedestrian bridge are being lumped together with items such as police and fire which ARE paid though the real estate tax.
