August 26: A Really Long Day

Well, Its been a few days since I last blogged. It was a very, very busy week at work and in pet-sitting. I even stayed in Philly overnight. I had a place where the woman had 16 cats. This job takes 2 hours to do everything the correct way as per the 3 pages
of directions. This person has their own cats and rescues others and keeps them till they get a new home. From the amount of cats, finding new homes for lost, abandoned or abused cats is not that easy. This place has a system for keeping all the cats. Three of them are separated from the other free-range cats for 3 different reasons from Feline Leukemia to being to nasty to be with other cats. The other is in the garage for an unknown reason.
To get there by 6-6:30am, I caught the 4:15am Rt 408 NJ Transit Bus. The other day I did drive.
Its extra dark THAT time of the morning but the weather was nice and cool. At this hour, there are bout 5 folks going to the methadone clinic in Camden. Folks in recovery talk ONLY one thing themselves and their recovery that they are experience. One person I have not seen since December was with her husband and lost weight, another is 8 months pregnant with her 2nd child and 2nd daddy. Once in Camden, I caught PATCO
right away (PATCO trains run all night unlike SEPTA) and then at 8th Street, got the Market-EL line to 56th Street which is 2 blocks from work at 58th and Market.
Of course the Welfare-Wakka was booming with business with the end of the month carfare business to attend to and many folks needing to see our Career Development Unit at 9 am and 10am. So half of the day I really can not get MY work done. Oh well, I at least am working unlike many others I know in this Great Recession of 2010. So enjoy the movie I made and rest.

Thursday

Good morning. I awake to the news that we will get a foot of snowby Saturday.
The video is of one of the several stops at Pittman NJ. This town is definitely more suburban then all the other towns that I see on the bus. I did hear they were able to keep most of not ALL low income housing out. Some come on the bus as if well-off commuters from Haddonfield or Collingswood.
I did miss the City Commission meeting but I am assuming that there was no decision made on the Motorsports Park's plans for a motocross track. I also think that no decision was forthcoming about the Millville Police dispatch being disbanded to save $$ and have ALL 911 calls being taken by the County.
The photo was taken this morning. Its pretty cold out. Lets hope the 408 Express shows up this morning. Yesterday, it did not show up at my stop at 2nd and Vine Streets.

Bridge Plaza Camden NJ

I was on the bus on the way home and the driver and another fellow starting about our Pittman Express Bus
To the Tune of Moon River

Bridge Plaza

Bridge Plaza, wider than a mile,
I’am waiting here in style today.
Oh, dream maker, you heart breaker,
wherever you're going I'm going your way.
Bus riders off to see the world.
There's such a lot of world to see.
Glassboro, Pittman at the rainbow's end--
waiting 'round the bend,
my bus riding friend,
Bridge Plaza and me.

The Rest of December 1st

Before attending the City Commission meeting I wrote about, I had to get to work via the NJ Transit. I was up very early having breakfast and computer time. I then caught the 408 Bus at 5:47 am to Philly and went to work to tackle the welfare wakka. I know that I will be put on a caseload in Janurary. I am not to say anything since EVERYONE will be on a caseload like it was 2 years ago. I have written a sanction in a MONTH. I took the slowest bus in the earth back to Millville. I mean it was packed and it stopped every 2 minutes and I was 20 min late! Not content with just going to the meeting, I went to the Oar House and saw folks on BOTH sides of the whole issue. Folks were civil but yet tense. The beer was soothing thats for sure! What would Millville be like without the Oar House?? Yesterday I went to Penna Hospital to have a funky mole removed from my back. It was a 20 min procedure. Dr Crawford was effecient and I did not have to wait long to get this done. As for today, I need to postpone a Dr apt since it would take forever to get there on City Line Ave via the SEPTA Rt 44 bus from 8th and Market. Then get the Rt 52 bus from 54th and City Line Avenue to 52nd and Market and walk to 57th Street in this rain we are having. Guess I have to call the Dr. Tomorrow a dentest apt to clean my teeth at Dr. Reiff right on Pine. So I can just catch the bus from 2nd Street. Feel free to comment and stay warm Y'All.....

An Early Morning Ride

Well, I had left my wallet on the bus yesterday and had called NJ Transit right away and they found it. I now had to retreive it. I had to leave the house at 5:45am and drive to rt42 in Washington TWP NJ to the South Jersey Garage where the lost & Found was located. I then needed to go back to Millville by 715am so I could catch the 7:29 bus to get to Philly by 9:in30am. Well, I did get back to Millville in time for the bus. The bus ride was interesting to say the least. First off a woman came on really high on Xanax, Herion, or something elese. She wobbled on the bus and later was confused on when to get off the bus. Nearby a woman was just looking out the window in a dismissive manner. I must say I took a few nice artistic photos of her looking though the window.
I am now working creating a move from 12 or so 30 second clips. I will remove the batch I put on YouTube at www.youtube.com/mkrull1 and have 2 movies that should be about 5 to 7 minutes long.

Cumberland County Needs Real Public Transit

I read in the News of News of Cumberland County and in Magazzu Watch about the serious lack of public transit in Cumberland County. A woman named MorningCloud Jones gathered a petition to have NJ Transit INCREASE weekday service on the Route 408 bus.
I now do understand this issue more then ever since I have taken the 408 bus several times in the past 2 weeks. Looking at the schedules, I wonder how folks with NO car can get by in Cumberland County. As Ms. Jones states in the News of Cumberland County Article:

"It's very tough, she said, to find a job when one must rely on a bus schedule to get there, even for an interview. In fact, it can become a vicious circle. Imagine: you don't have any or enough income to buy a car; so you can't land a job requiring efficient, reliable transportation; so you can't get the money to get that car, to achieve that reliability, that can get you the job."

I wish her luck and would like to help her with pushing the state and county to get serious about this. It must be a part of any economic development plan that is developed. Better yet lets continue the pressure to get started now.

Taking the Bus to Phillly

This is a series of photos documenting my bus ride on the NJ Transit Rte 408 which goes from Millville to Philly. Its a 2 hour ride going though Camden, Glauchester City, Brooklawn, Westville, Deptford, Washington Twp, Glassboro, Pittman, Clayton, Franklinville, Vineland then ending in good ole Millville NJ. I went though the 5 points where I passed the 5 points Diner. Wonder if its a decent diner. It is sure in a prime location. I can see that that intersection could be dangerous at night These are all the towns I skip crusing along route 55. This was an interesting ride and I even met several nice people I hope to see again. Anyhow today was a good day off and back to work tomorrow but its 3rd Friday!! Today was the first real hot day. The AC's were going for sure. Enjoy!!!
