More changes

I stayed home from work today to get 4 more hours of sleep to fight off my scratchy throut. We are getting stuff moved out and around for an artist to move in in 2 days.tend the fun festivites at the Oar House but we are having dinner with the artist around 6 tonite which is an hour from now. We moved out stuff from my old office and donated my old computer to Goodwill and gave back stuff that we had from Rusty Heart to get some room in the attac. The front room was cleared of the old stove several days ago and we still have more items to shove out. Our stupid cat Oggie just f&*#@ got out. Of course it jumped the fence to the neighbors house. The last thing I need right now to to bury 2 cats in one week!!! Well, back to work on the upstairs. Have a good weekend. Go Phillies!!!!

Death and Change

Just before I went to the Millville Gardens Celebration , I had just finished walking my dogs when we descovered that one of cats Odessa lie still on the street in front of our house still with blood out of its mouth. She was dead from being hit by a car...How sad and depressing. The show had to go on and after leaving the Millville Gardens event. We moved the old wood burning stove with the able help of Bob, Carl, Jozef, and Bucky. Someone aided our efforts with a professional grade handtruck so we could move it to the backyard studio. Attempts to move an old sofa bench were less sucessful and we left it outside. A new paint job for the stairwell is now needed. As you might know we have closed the gallery and we need to clear out space for studios for art and yoga. I went to the Sun Bank and took care of some business. Appairently, they your checkcard frozen if you do not use it, even on a business account. Overall a strange gray day that feels 5 months away from may. One bright spot the Phillies are ahead 2-0 in the top of the 8th inning in Game one of the World Seris vs the Yankees.

Millville Gardens Demolition Celebration

It was a drizzly day in Millville but Folks were out to celebrate the beginning of the end of Millville Gardens. This event had been a long time coming. This blog has followed the progress of the city’s and neighbors efforts to get rid of this eyesore of the 3rd Ward. The 3rd Ward Neighborhood Group lead the fight to demolish this blight. Don Cossaboon-DeGregorio (aka Big Don the Pirate) made a splash at a City Commission meeting in April 2008. He wore his green Tear Down Millville Gardens t-shirt and brought a large sledgehammer and urged the city to demolish Millville Gardens. The sledgehammer Mayor Shannon used on the sign was the same one Don brought to commission chambers that day in April. I could not be at that meeting since I was at the time campaigning for the Millville School Board. I bought one of my Tear Down Millville Gardens t-shirts Mayor Shannon, Commissioners Derella, Vanaman and Finch all spoke of the common efforts of neighbors, city officials and professionals to get to this point. Bucky and I posed with sledgehammers and our green t-shirts to mark this occasion.

Election 2009: Trick or Treat??

I did some errends yesterday and saw these kids dress up so funny and its not even Holloween. The Rite Aid can be a strange place weither its West Philly or Millville.
Anyhow I got a disturbing email this morning concerning a radio program with I believe 2 candidates running in this November's election. on 92.1 WVLT. They went on and on about how Man I wish I had heard THAT!! I really wish I did!!!
On Magazzuwatch a Mr. Calhoun made this statement that implied that Ms. VanEmbden said the following:
She was proud of being on Lou’s ticket and how those who were complaining (about Lou) were like little yippy dogs and were part of a very vocal minority.
I just got clairifcation on what Ms. Van Embden was referring to when she made this statement. She was referring to opponents of the racetrack and the Millville Arts District. Those opponents would be TrackRacket and Millville First, not those who disagree with Lou Magazzu. She being the only Millville Resident on the ticket was proud to live in Millville. I want to apoligize to Ms. VanEbden.Man the state of Cumberland County politics today.....

Riding the White Horse

I joined some of my co-workers to congratuate Gloria on her retirement after 35 years of state service. After work on Friday, we went to the White Horse bar and resturant to hang out and start the weekend. Its rare I get to have after work fun.

Snakeskin and Pennent

Today was quite nice and mild. Really can not ask for nice climate for late October. As usual took the bus at 5:47 am (see video below). I then took the EL train and saw some sites in Philly. At work a co-worker showed off what her pet snake has shedded. It was quite a site and I was glad I could take a picture of it. On the way home I got updates on the Phillies via text as they finished off the LA Dodgers in 5 games. I do not get TBS, so I eventually went to the Oar House for the final part of the game. It looks like the Phillies will play the Yankees. We have not played them in a World Series since 1950!

Texting via Gmail

I took a break from work to engage in some conversation....
The last history book i read as "PR! The Social History of Spin"the guy who fatheed PR as a field was Freud's nephew and was admired by Goebbels the propaganda minister cuz he wrote a book called "the crystallization of consent"me: I really like stuff on the Nazis and the Germans between WW1 and WW2Sent at 3:52 PM on Monday
Jozsef: Edward Bernays... among his other contributions is getting women to smoke, convincing people that black top everywhere would be good and i think helping to topple a south American government in addition to being at the treaty of Versailles and coming up with propaganda for Wilson

me: Germans give you less personal space then us in the US. Very interesting people. So gifted yet so scary at the same time Sent at 3:53 PM on Monday

me: Crystallization of Consent? Sounds real interesting. What is the name of the Author?? Well I suppose I could "Google" the book and just buy on Amazon. I have to save money so reading will be good.Sent at 3:55 PM on Monday

Jozsef: edward burnays... Sigmund frueds nephew... among other things he was regarded as psychotherapit for corporations... hed be called in to he them with their images etcme: I ought to get that book Sent at 3:57 PM on Monday
Jozsef: The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society. Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country. ...We are governed, our minds are molded, our tastes formed, our ideas suggested, largely by men we have never heard of. This is a logical result of the way in which our democratic society is organized. Vast numbers of human beings must cooperate in this manner if they are to live together as a smoothly functioning society. ...In almost every act of our daily lives, whether in the sphere of politics or business, in our social conduct or our ethical thinking, we are dominated by the relatively small number of persons...who understand the mental processes and social patterns of the masses. It is they who pull the wires which control the public mind.me: Wow..thats pretty deep....

Jozsef: his quote http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_Bernaysme: Pretty pithy my friend Cool will check it out.Sent at 3:59 PM on MondayJozsef: this may be interestinghttp://memory.loc.gov/cgi-bin/ampage?collId=amrlm&fileName=me20page.db&recNum=1&itemLink=r?ammem/coolbib:@field%28TITLE+@od1%28Edward+L+Bernays+Papers+++Are+We+Victims+of+Propaganda?+A+Debate++Everett+Dean+Martin+and+Edward+L++Bernays+%29%29a debate between him and some other dude in the 20s "ae we victims of propaganda"from a magazine back in the day propaganda was an acceptable term prior to the nazis and used descriptively more often wiout negative connotations quote

We Need Health Care Reform

This so much needed today. Did you know that health insurance companies are exempt from anti-trust laws?

My Brother Visits Millville

He came in from Oakland (yup that team that beat the Eagles) yesterday to pay a visit. We showed him parts of High Street that included JB &ME, Oar House and Bogarts Books. Bogarts held Poetry on High on this day. The rain had stopped after 4 days and we had a nice time. He showed me his IPOD with the many apps including one that found a $289 round-trip to Oakland!

Comments on the Freeholder Forum

It was a quiet 3rd Friday. Came home, walked the dogs and chilled out inside. It was a cold spitty rainy day. Today promises to be the same. Boy the 11 o'clock news was all in a lather over the 2nd N'or Easter approaching. The 2nd top story was about a man being seriously hurt at a strip club in SW. Philly. Nothing like strip-clubs for those ratings.
While I was thinking of what to write, I read a blog that covered the Freeholder candidates forum. On the most part he tries to be even-handed. The notable exceptions were his remarks about Lou Magazzu and Lauren Van Embden. Now I understand his comments about big Lou. He is toxic and should be voted out of office. I wholeheartedly agree with him. I really do not understand his attitude towards Ms. Van Embden. She is running a CLEAN campaign and resisting calls from her own party to play slash and burn. This shows to me she has good values and ethics and will not be a pawn to Lou and party boss Kavenaugh. The accusations of ageism are a red herring. In fact I believe she is being sensitive not to use age as a wedge issue.

I see that MagazzuWatch featured RD Owens and my blogs . Some of the comments were pretty mean towards Mr Owens. I am sorry I did not have time to write my take. It would have interesting to read what they thought of my comments. So I decided to make my views known.
Well here goes.
I thought Gloria Noto was pretty energetic. I did not think that her aggressive defense of her record was really necessary. She went on the attack while stating how frugal she is. She is pretty harmless though and had a large following at the Millville First sponsored event. Lauren Vending was very good. She stated that she would bring changes in the clerks office that would bring it up to speed in today's world. Ms. VanEmbden is running a clean campaign and yes I do plan to vote for her.
Mr Magazzu was his old arrogant self. I missed his grand entrance earlier in the forum. The Republicans seemed like nice fellows but did not come off as strong leaders. It would be OK if at least one of them got in. I would say Mr. Sheppard was the most qualified candidate of the Republicans in my mind.
The independent candidates were strong except Bruce Peterson. Mr. Peterson seemed like was not in good health (hope I am incorrect.) . Ms Christy and Ms. Swift had a strong grip on facts and poise. They at least have Freeholder experience. I heard one of the Lou Puppets, Jane Jennorne make comments behind me when Ms. Christy called Lou out on several issues.
Mr. Sanford was earnest but lets face it he is a second-tier candidate who needs some work. I do think that its good to have an average Joe make a stab at running for public office. It take guts to run and put yourself out there.
I asked a fellow blogger if he thought that Lou Magazzu would win. He wrote back that he was pretty sure Lou would win due to name recognition and that most voters do not think before voting. I must admit he does have good point. It must be noted that he is a strong Magazzu critic like myself. I am fearing that the Republicans and Independents will split the Anti-Magazzu vote and we will be stuck with Lou as a result. I sure hope I am wrong.
I must say that the Millvile First did a fine job running this forum. They seem to have improved in running these forums.

Proposed New Millville High School Location

Well, I had to miss a forum held Thursday October 15th about where the new Millville High School will be built but Jason LaDay wrote a good article in Friday's News of Cumberland County.
This is my ongoing report on the process of having a new high school built in Millville New Jersey. You can see my previous reports on the Route 55 blog.

John Hamilton, a real estate official for the SDA, went through the four principal possibilities of the new school site, listing what the authority will be considering when weighing their options as to where the final choice will go.
They included:
~ Cedar Street, across from Bogden Road:
Pros included adequate land and water/sewer availability.
A downside there includes added construction costs toward soundproofing against noise from the municipal airport and the New Jersey Motorsports Park.

~ Unused portion of the Four Seasons development, near the intersection of Cedarville and Buckshutem roads:
Also features adequate land and sewer/water hookups.
However, there is a higher anticipated cost to acquire the land due to the site already having been approved for additional senior housing.
In addition, Millville fire and police officials have expressed concerns as to emergency response times. The city and residents have also broached traffic concerns.

~ The city industrial park, on Gorton Road:
Possesses required amount and land as well as sewer/water connections.
Cons include an active freight rail line that would impede entry to the school as well as bring potentially hazardous materials through a school zone.
Emergency officials also brought up response time concerns.

~ West Main Street, west of Smith Road:
With the most amount of residents present at the forum opposing this location, they raised homemade sings listing the various problems this location would cause.
According to the SDA, the site provides enough land available for future school expansion and would reduce the impact a new high school would cause on existing residential neighborhoods.
In addition, Hamilton stated there is "sizable" commercial development planned for the area west of Smith Street, and a new high school would already be there to accommodate the increased activity there.
However, they admitted to problems with sewer and water connections, stating the required permits from the state Department of Environmental Protection would delay the project anywhere between three to five years.

"We're looking at about eight or nine sites right now," said Murphy. "There's a lot to be said for the west side of the city; there's a lot of space and 20 to 30 years from now, there will be a lot of development (We will have to see!)

Some facts about the new high school revealed at the forum:
The SDA will spend $163 million toward all studies and construction of the school.
~ However, it does not pay for water and sewage connections.
~ Will accommodate 2,300 students from grades nine through 12.
~ A total of 356,288 square feet in size.
~ Will include business and health classrooms, special education classrooms a media center library and music and art rooms.

Next steps:
The city commission and board of education must now take include submitting written reports on each potential site on whether they are owned by the City of Millville, the school district or private citizens.
The SDA along with the N.J. Department of Education will then review the sites in writing, forwarding its opinions to the school district.
From there, the district will identify up to three locations for final consideration following a public hearing, and the SDA and N.J. DOE will run feasibility

I will have to check out a few of these meetings and see what's up. I hope that I get feedback on this so I can be better informed. The process is drawn out and needs to be watched by all Millville Residents

Changes

Been awhile since I wrote. I have not been in the mood much in the past 2 weeks. This weekend hung out with Carolyne and Steve and volunteered painting the soon to be opened Levoy Theatre business office

The Fithian Gallery will not be in operation for a while. We aren't giving up or closing forever; we just need some time to get it together and reemerge stronger than ever. This has been a tough decision and we are just emerging from a tough time. When our dear friend and artist, Jimmy Miller, died, it was the last straw. We see no other choice at the time. We are offering studio space for artists so email me at mkrullrt55@gmail.com or call.
The photo is at the Goodwill Store in Millville. Its funny but sums up the times we are living in now. Things are pretty tight nowadays
On the politics front, I have been out of the loop but I have heard these nibbles over the past week or so.
First off there are going to be 4 announcements concerning Millville over the next week to 10 days. I know one will announce the date of demolition of the Millville Gardens but from the hints I got they are all going to be good news for the Millville economy and we all want Millville to succeed...right?? I do know that the city is working on changes to the sign ordinances. This is way overdue and I think most would agree with me on this one.
Word is out according to Lou Magazzu's own polling, he will win followed by Nelson Thompson. This same poll has Lauren Van Embden behind incumbent Gloria Noto. I heard that at an event Lou had his ..... Man can't even print that one out cause its so shameless. Geez this man has to be voted out..Please!!!
I plan to be in Philly to work on business since I do not have to work. The video below yours truly who left their wallet on the bus and called NJ Transit right away. The driver found and and gave to the lost and found located in Washington Twp NJ. I think the bus is OK. I do have one lady who has a problem with me since I talk with a recovering heroin addict too loud and fails to get off at the lovely "Bridge Plaza" in Camden. Maybe I will feature this place on this space soon.
